Six Week Visit

DamianDamian and I had our six week postpartum visit yesterday. The gap in my abdominal muscles has healed, my uterus is back to its normal size and my tear is mostly healed, she still wants me to wait four more weeks before any… baby creating activities. They want me to come back in a month to check it again and fit me for a diaphragm as well. I feel great and today I fit into my prepregnancy jeans for the first time since giving birth. They are my bloaty pms jeans but I am totally not complaining! I do not know if I will ever fit back into my “skinny jeans”, not because I won’t loose the rest of the baby weight but because I think my hips are permanently wider from carrying Damian.

Damian is doing extremely well. My midwife told me it is great if he has gained 2lbs since birth. He has gone in 8lbs 8oz to 12lbs 4oz, gaining 3lbs12oz! Beth was shocked and really pleased, she says he is the biggest six week baby she has weighed in a long time. She was really impressed that he can hold his head up as well as any 3 month old too. We really do have a super baby.

Tomorrow our photographer friend, Andrea, is going to do family portraits of us in Manito Park. Temple Free Spirit is also having a potluck picnic there at noon (we are meeting by the duck pond.) I am really looking forward to tomorrow.

TFS Weekly Question: Social Interactions

Every Saturday I try to post a new question on the Temple Free Spirit yahoo group. This weeks question is as follows:

Is knowing other people who are on your same path important to your spiritual growth? How do you feel the different forms of social interaction (ie: face-to-face discussion, online chat, telephone) affect your spiritual development? Which method do you prefer?

I want to say, first and foremost social interaction is vital to my well-being (as well as the “alone-time” I need after deep discussed.) I love laughter and debate, I think both grow the soul and one’s personal experience. I am told I am one of those people who can get along with most people. I tend to agree, I love to hear people’s story and am quite good at coaxing it out of them.

I feel we are all connected in some way and that there is a reason people come into my life at certain points, even if they are seemingly disruptive. (One such person came into my life recently and I feel this person is here for a very important reason, to develop inner calm and under-developed ability to let some things go!)

I do not seek out disruptive people though! I tend to form friendships and with those whom I can relate with on multiple levels (I think it is human nature to do so.) Many of the discussion groups I frequent are full of people who are not necessarily on my same path, but at least compatible with it. That way there are enough similarities so closed-minded fights are avoided but enough disagreements to encourage spiritual development.

(Recent local meetup I went to.) As far as forms of communication, they all have their benefits and pitfalls. The internet has its speed and diversity, but distance and 2-dimensionalism can hinder. I am dyslexic and when you accidentally write “can” rather than “can’t” things can get messy quickly. Also, I am one of those people who tend to speak as much through body language as with words, hence the 2-dimensional nature of my online persona. Because of these two factors face-to-face interaction is my preferred method of communication, especially for philosophical discussion, ideally in a discussion groups of 5 to 10 people.

I can go on and on about social interactions and how important I feel they are to our civilizations wellbeing, but I will leave this here. If you happen to blog about this same topic, drop me a link, I’d love to read our opinions.

Temple Free Spirit Solstice Gathering

guests
(These are some of the people who came to our gathering. Including children, we had about 25 people attend, which was a really fantastic turnout, especially with all the snow we had yesterday!)

Temple Free Spirit hosted its first every gathering last night. We celebrate the Winter Solstice! The gathering was held at Shannon and Robb’s home on Spokane’s South Hill and a total success! We held a small ritual, had a potluck and had lots of fun! As with all Temple events, we also had a food drive and received several large bags of food for Second Harvest.

The Winter Solstice Gathering was a wonderful chance to get together, build community spirit and celebrate the Earth. Thank you to everyone who helped with preparations and attended.

Community

Michael and I have Chiefs tickets for tonight, against Tri Cities! Let the mayhem begin.

“Free Spirits - Open Minds” so far as gotten great reviews. I was a little nervous about it at first but Michael did a really professional job laying it out and Temple Free Spirit members submitted wonderful articles! I am already looking forward to our Imbolc issue.

My current nervousness lies in next Saturday when we will be having the first Temple Free Spirit event, a Winter Solstice gathering. It will be in one of our member’s home. Shannon has a large empty full basement with a kitchen and bathroom which will work perfectly. Right now almost everything is planned down to the T, except some last minute work on the ritual. My friend Dee gathered lots of information on various Solstice traditions, and we met up this week to review them. Today I am working on knitting our favorite ideas together.

Community is so important, I can never seem to stress this enough. I could not having planned the gathering to this extent on my own. All the brainstorming and planning and little details have come together wonderfully thanks to all of us working together. The people in my community are all blessings.

Anyhow, I better get back to work. I can hardly call it work though since it is so enjoyable!

Festive Spirit

Yule Mantle
(Pretend that I actually have red or green tapered candles in those silver holders…)

I suppose I should post some kind of update, I’m still alive and kicking. Making lots of candles and pulling out Yuletide decorations. Do you prefer silvers and golds or reds and greens, or all of the above (like me!) I don’t know what it is about this year but I am in the festive mood earlier then usual. It is not even Thanksgiving yet after all. I am putting together a Yuletide newsletter for Temple Free Spirit; reading the contributions and writing my own article (about the history of gift giving) are definitely putting me in the holiday spirit.

Now we just need some snow!

What else… Not to much else that I am willing to publicly talk about it going on other then the usual baby ramblings. I hardly had any morning sickness today. Yay! I am tired a lot. Not so yay! And I am prone to random spells of bubbly excitement interspersed with tears. I also have this nagging feeling that my uterus is slowly but surely absorbing my brain…

Anyhow, back to candles. I am designing some holiday sets, I hope they look as lovely in wax as they do in my head.
