Crib Question
Okay, new mom question here…
I am organizing the nursery today and I noticed I don’t have crib sheets or bumpers. Then I started to wonder, how exactly do you layer all that stuff in the crib anyways? My baby books tell me everything that shouldn’t go in cribs but not what should. How odd is that?
So I looked it up online and now I am just utterly confused.
The crib mattress I have is waterproof, so do I need to get waterproof pads or do I just use sheets then? Do I need to get crib bumpers and why?
Help!

There should’ve been a few red crib sheets in that box I sent… but maybe not. I can’t remember any more, LOL. Or maybe red’s not your thing. It’s good to have some backup.
The only thing you’d need in the crib is a receiving blanket, but if your house isn’t freezing, you may well not need that for a while. I kept my July boy (Jeff) in a diaper and a tee shirt, and if I was sleeping at the same time, he slept in the crook of my arm in my bed until he was six weeks old or so. Way easier on both of us, and I didn’t move at all in my sleep (plus you don’t sleep long at a stretch).
The waterproof pad is to save the sheets. You’ll want a thin cotton mattress pad (not waterproof) under the crib sheet because otherwise it’s awfully hot sleeping on top of a waterproof mattress. I used the waterproof pad over the sheet and under the baby’s bottom, mainly, or on my bed with a receiving blanket over it for the baby to sleep on. This curtailed some mess.
Get several sheets and mattress pads. You’re going to be changing the bedclothes a lot.
I had crib bumpers, and my kids were fine. Apparently now you’re not supposed to use them, though…?

I completely forgot about those sheets! Trying them though, one is too small to fit our mattress (the one that is made of terry cloth) the other fits great though. I’ve read that you should have bumpers and I have also read that babies can get “trapped” beside improperly installed ones and suffocate.
Thanks for the information about how to do up the crib. I don’t feel so lost now!

The red terrycloth sheet is actually a cover for that portable changing pad (foldable cushion with the divot down the middle) that was also in the box.
You will *love* that thing.
There was a quilt in there, too, but you’ll probably use that more for putting the baby on than under, until cold weather sets in again.
You’re most welcome!

Yes you need sheets.
The sheet will be soft for the baby to lay his face on. The plastic will get hot and his face will stick to it. The waterproff pad is not necessary but you may want one in about a year when he pees more because diapers leak.
Most young babies do need a light weight recieving blanket, no pillows or heavy blankets please. No stuff toys while he is young unless you make sure that they are at the far end of the crib on the opposite side.
Hope this helps
