Microwave
I adore hot cocoa, any kind will really do but I really adore is homemade cocoa. I have my own recipe but I admit today I just heated up some milk in the microwave and stir in some chocolate syrup. I just finished cleaning the kitchen, I am not quite ready to dirty it up again.
Well it is almost clean…
Do you have that one area in your home (maybe even a couple areas) that you just do not like to clean? It is normally tucked away and easily ignorable until one day you realize it may indeed be a health hazard? You know, like the upstairs toilet that has more rings than you? Not that we talk about that…
I have such a place and I won’t be telling you how long it has been since it was last cleaned, as that is quite incriminating. Nor will I be showing photos, once again, quite incriminating, but that place for me is the microwave. Oh, I keep it looking nice on the outside, but inside, well, those who develop weapons of mass destruction might indeed be impressed.
We do not own one of those microwave cover things and we are bad at covering stuff that we nuke so the splatter has built up. I rarely use the microwave (I use the toaster oven more and I keep that as it has a clear glass front…) so it is easy for me to ignore, that is, until I heated up my milk for cocoa today. I covered my mug, not because of I afraid of overflow, but rather I was afraid of what might get in it. Which is pretty darn gross when you think about it.
Thus the microwave must now be faced, that or I should start eating raw food.
The problem is a lot of the food is pretty stuck on and doesn’t seem to want to go anywhere so, does anyone have any tricks for getting stuck off food out of the inside of the microwave? Preferably a method that does not involve any harsh chemicals?
I fear if I do not clean the microwave soon it may develop sentience and murder me in my sleep. Kind of like Michael’s fridge did when I first moved in with him. (I barely survived that battle…)

This TOTALLY works– fill a large glass liquid measuring cup about half to 3/4 full of water and put it in the micro. Nuke it until it comes to a boil. Let it sit in the micro with the door closed for about10-15 minutes. It will steam the nasty stuff so that it’s easy to wipe off. It worked awesomely for my icky microwave.
If you still need to scrub, you can make a natural soft scrub this way:
CREAMY SOFT SCRUBBER
Simply pour about 1/2 cup of baking soda into a bowl, and add enough
liquid detergent to make a texture like frosting. Scoop the mixture
onto a sponge, and wash the surface. This is the perfect recipe for
cleaning the bathtub because it rinses easily and doesn’t leave grit.
Note: Add 1 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin to the mixture and store
in a sealed glass jar, to keep the product moist. Otherwise just make
as much as you need at a time.
Hope this helps!

I don’t have any advice about the cleaning, but the raw food thing might not be so bad
. I know you and Michael did plenty with the fall harvest, which seemed really cool based on your pictures–will you be able to plant a garden this year, or something like that? Probably not right this moment, of course, for some reason it looks like we’re going to get a foot of snow on the cusp of April. Crazy Spokane

I doubt I will ever be a raw food eater. I do not mind predominately raw food but I could not do it exclusively, especially as I do not feeling cooking food is unhealthy.
With the baby coming I am not too focused on a garden right, our patio is mainly shade which makes it a bit of a pain to work with, though not impossible. I am hoping to be able to start a basic herb garden this year at least. I have gotten permission from the landlady to install a window box below my kitchen window which will be ideal for dry loving herbs.
Serious, what is up with this weather? I am sooo ready for some sun!

Maybe, we need a little more global warming!
I heard the other day a blip that said the latest scientific data is actually showing that we may be going into an ice age instead.

Turtleheart nailed it! Best way EVER to clean a microwave. Works better than ANY chemical-in-a-bottle I’ve ever tried. (and I’ve tried them!)
