Project Gutenberg
What do you do when you are tired but can’t sleep? The herb Skullcap works but I am trying to keep the herbal remedies to a minimum during my pregnancy.
While not quite as cuddly as curling up with a paper book, I read ebooks. Staring at the computer screen wears my eyes out more somehow. I was reading “Confessions of an English Opium-Eater” by Thomas De Quincey (why didn’t we get to read stuff like this in school?) and I thought I would pause and blog for a few minutes. Was the author actually on opium when he wrote it?
I find a lot of my free ebooks on Project Gutenberg since all their books are public domain, which means they are almost all old, but I like the classics.
Anyhow tiredness just struck me so I think I am off to bed.
How is everyone? Any big plans for the Winter Solstice/Christmas?

We have that book in my collection of leatherbounds. You tried to read it when you were younger but it was too disjointed.
His other books were good but this one became better known as it “documented” his descent into opium addiction while he wrote it.
Jumbo shrimo in wine marinade sauce tonight, reminded me of our moules dinners in France.

One more thing. Reading on a screen does not trigger your blink reflex which happens when you turn a physical page.
Your eyes dry out and then feel tired.
Blink more or use neutral eye drops.

Thanks to ‘Dad’ for explaining that about the eyes. My eyes get that way too which means I have to take a break every couple hours or so when
hovered over a computer.
You know, I confess, I don’t think I’d ever heard of skullcap - at least as a
herb - before you mentioned it. I’m gonna have to try it sometime. I just
refuse to take sleeping pills. Hope you caught some rest!

I wake up about 1 almost every night. The only way I can get back to sleep is to get up and have a glass of milk, get really cold, then get back into the bed and curl up with the quilts around my mouth. Strange, I know, but it works.
